Scholarships for Speech Communication
American Institute for Polish Culture Award
$1000. Must major in journalism, communications, or public relations. Award selected on merit basis. Preference given to American students of Polish heritage.

Association for Women in Communications
The Association for Women in Communications, Springfield area chapter, announces the opening of its 2006 scholarship award search. The scholarship competition - this year for one $2,000 award - is open to junior, senior and graduate level college students who are either from Central Illinois or attend a Central Illinois school. Applicants must be majoring in communications, journalism, public relations or related fields and have an above-average GPA. Applications will be accepted through March 8, 2006.
Through the application process, the student must demonstrate a commitment to pursuing a professional career in communications through both educational work and communications activities. In addition, each applicant must submit an essay that answers two of the following three questions: (1) "What factor(s) or person(s) had the most influence on your decision to pursue a career in communications and why?" (2) "If you could envision your ideal communications job in 10 years, what would you be doing and what impact would you hope to have on your workplace?" (3) "How would you like to be able to influence the future of communications, both as an individual and through your chosen medium?" Reference letters and current college transcripts also are required. Finalists may be interviewed by telephone or asked to appear for a brief interview before a selection committee in Springfield.

The Association of Women in Communications, Springfield area chapter, instituted this annual academic scholarship program to recognize outstanding communications students. The award symbolizes the commitment of the Association for Women in Communications, Springfield area chapter, to education and continuing high professional standards for the communications industry.
James L. Golden Outstanding Student Essay in Rhetoric
$1000 for undergraduates and graduates, who at the time of submission, have not been awarded the M.A.degree. Entries focusing on the history, theory or criticism of rhetoric, of a length not greater than 20 pages of text. Letter of nonmination from a faculty member. Entries must be received by June 4, 2004.
