| TV-10 tops in state with seven IBA Student Silver Dome Awards
11/16/08 - Illinois State University’s television program, TV-10, won a total of seven awards, including four First Place awards, at this year’s Illinois Broadcasters Association Student Silver Dome Awards. TV-10’s seven awards are more than any other university television program in the state.
TV-10 won awards in the categories for Best TV Photojournalism, Best TV Spot, Best TV Sports Pack, and Best TV Longform Program.
TV-10 claimed all three finalists for Best TV Photojournalism. First Place went to Dan Coad, TV-10’s Creative Services Manager, for his photo-essay on “Woodturning.” Coad ’09 is a Mass Communication major from Beach Park. The Second Place winner was Jason Boyer ’10 of Normal, for his story “Teen Racer,” and Third Place went to Dong-Ah Exchange Student Sang-hyun Park for “Korean Drumming.”
TV-10 had two winners in the Best TV Spot category. Jason Boyer and Bailey Hume won First Place for their :30 spot called “Support the Troops.” Alyse Braun won Third Place for her station promo titled “Bad Weather Makes Us Work Harder.” Braun ’08 currently works in production at WEEK-TV in Peoria.
Andrew Barra, TV-10’s Sports Director, won First Place in the Best TV Sports Pack category for his story on ISU Basketball Center Levi Dyer’s trying out for the ISU Football team. Barra ’09, is a Broadcast Journalism major from Peoria. He worked with photographer Matt Zickus ’08, on this story.
TV-10 also won First Place in the Best TV Longform Program category for “The 33rd Comes Home: A TV-10 Special Report.” This program was produced last September on the day that the 33rd Military Police Battalion returned home from active duty in Iraq. The program was produced by Broadcast Journalism major Jacob Long ’09, from Granite City, and also involved the efforts of Erin Lawson ’07, Peter Vander Hye ’08, Patrick Brown ’07, Adam Rahn ’07, Sang-hee Lee ’08, Andrew Barra ’09 and many others.
The winners were announced at IBA-U, a one-day conference attended by more than 200 Radio and Television students. The awards were presented at the Silver Dome Luncheon, held in the Brown Ballroom at Illinois State University. |
