Communication alumnus brings "Cubs on Campus"

Jay Blunk, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Chicago Cubs baseball organization, spoke to 300 ISU students, staff and faculty members on November 7 in the Redbird Arena. Blunk, a 1986 School of Communication alumnus, has participated in developing Chicago Cubs marketing into one of the most successful sports marketing programs in history; 3.1 million fans attended games in Wrigley Field during the 2006 season.

His visit was organized by ISU student members of the Public Relations Student Society of America.

The "Cubs on Campus," project also included a reception, a press conference and a live radio appearance for Blunk and fellow ISU alumna Andrea Burke, who is an account executive for the Chicago Cubs. Twenty-seven members of Public Relations Student Society of America spent three weeks preparing for the visit, and Blunk applauded their efforts.

“Seeing the energy, enthusiasm and professionalism of these students, it's easy to see why the School of Communication is experiencing so much success," said Blunk, who began his Cubs career as a student intern from Illinois State in 1985.
