Also remember that I would very much like a copy of your PowerPoint presentation for the class website. You can hand it in on a floppy disk or email it to me when you have it finished. Also, just a reminder that Friday, Dec. 6, your papers are due by 5 p.m. You can certainly hand it in early, but don't be late as you don't want to lose hard-earned points. Happy Thanksgiving and see you Monday! Dr. O ---------- November 14, 2002 4:30 p.m. --------- Hi again everyone, Given the response last week indicating how valuable the extra time was for making progress on your projects, I've decided again to assign no extra readings this week. Use the time to continue tracking down materials for your term projects and reading them for relevance and contribution. We will meet on Monday to discuss progress as a group and to again provide time for individual meetings. If you wish to talk to me about your project, bring whatever materials that are helpful -- some readings, your current outline, bibliography, etc. You should be getting ready to begin writing soon as you have a couple of weeks to write a solid paper and the presentation. We can talk more about the presentation next week as well. See you Monday. Dr. O ---------- November 9, 2002 11 p.m. --------- Hi again everyone, No readings assigned for this week! Sorry for the late notice, but I thought that perhaps you would appreciate the opportunity to spend time working on your project. Be in class Monday, as we'll go around the table to hear about your progress and to have the group provide constructive feedback and suggestions. I will also then be available for one-on-one meetings for the latter part of the session. Some I've already talked to, so not everyone may need to meet. So bring your notes and anything else that might help me to help you make progress. See you Monday! Dr. O ---------------------------- November 2, 2002 12 p.m. -------------------------------- Hi Everyone, Don't forget, you are to bring your paper outline (such as it is at this point) and a preliminary reference list (6-8 good citations) to hand in on Monday. This is primarily to motivate you to clarify your project and get to the library to identify useful sources. I want to help you to make this process a low-stress, high reward experience that results in a high-quality project, rather than a mad scramble that produces a mediocre product. The outlines and references will also help me to give you guidance on your projects. Don't forget the Webboard postings for the Diffusion readings! See ya! Dr. O ---------------------------- October 3, 2002 2 p.m. -------------------------------- Hi Everyone, I apologize for missing class last week -- I was not feeling well at all and also I didn't want to risk getting all of you sick. I'm now on antibiotics for acute bronchitis and feeling a bit better. The upshot of missing last week is that I am pushing back the deadline for Response Paper #2 one week, along with the entire reading schedule. I'll update the online calender to reflect that. I will have your Response Paper #1 for you on Monday so you can incorporate suggestions and edits for your #2. So, see you on Monday! Dr. O ---------------------------- September 5, 2002 4 p.m. -------------------------------- Hi Everyone, Seems like a looong time since we've met, given the week off for Labor Day Monday. We're picking up where we left off, reading the assigned chapters in the history book and posting responses. Note that I've posted the first message in each topic, so that if you reply to that message all of your responses will (I hope) be easier to access. Sunday night is the deadline, remember! Be sure to go back over all the responses before class so you have the benefit of your classmates' ideas to bring to the discussion. Madelynn and I will be bringing snacks -- not dinner, but something to help us through the evening. I'll ask for volunteers for the following week during class. See you on Monday! Dr. O ---------------------------- August 19, 2002 6 p.m. -------------------------------- Hi There! I see you DID find this page! Good -- this will be an important source of information, reminders, alerts, etc. for the course. I recommend that you check this page for new updates every time you log onto the site. You will be prompted by the News Alerts on the site homepage as well. I will post new news above the old, so the newest news will always be on the top. If you want to check previous alerts, scroll down this page as I will leave all the others up throughout the semester. If you have an announcement or question for your classmates, send it to me and I can post it here as well. See ya -- Dr. O |
